All the Books I've Finished - June 2011
55My June 2011 Reading List
I just started a bunch of hubs for the books I've read over the course of the past few days. I had one hub per book, and I was intending to write a review for each. There is one problem with that - I don't know how to write a review. Isn't it enough to say that I read the book, and then list whether or not I liked it? I think it is.
That's why I am starting this particular hub. I will create a new reading list hub for each month. I personally love reading articles like this. It gives me some great ideas concerning which books I am going to read.
I love reading!
How do I choose the books I am going to read?
There really is no rhyme or reason, but I do have a fairly interesting process by which I choose a book to read.
At the library. I walk around and throw books into my arms until I can't carry anymore. Then when I go home, I start reading them and then put them down if they are boring. I read maybe 2 out of every 10 book I select.
At the bookstore. This process is a little more involved. It requires a commitment because I will be buying it, so I better read it.
- I look at the cover for quotes from critics or to see if I simply like the title and the picture.
- If I like the look of it, I pick it up. If I don't I move on.
- Once I pick it up, I look at the back cover and any jacket inserts, if applicable.
- If I am still intrigued, I turn to a random page and read the paragraph.
- Don't like the way it reads? Does the tone annoy me? Is it first person? It takes a stellar author to get me interested in first person...
- I then read the first sentence.
If the book passes the above test and I simply like it, I buy it.
Seriously, I wouldn't want to be an author in my pile (if I were an editor). I'm tough! The whole process takes 15, maybe 20 seconds.

I Became a Writer Because I Love Books!
It's not even the middle of June, and I've already read three novels. You know, I've always been like this. In fact, it's the reason why I became a writer. I wanted to write the wonderful tales that kept me up at night. Literally. I have fond memories of blowing my bedtime and staying up until 3 AM with a flashlight under the covers and the latest book capturing my imagination.
