Find a Product

The first step is to find a product to promote. You can either create your own or find an affiliate program. For example, if you bought an eBook in a certain topic and you liked it a lot, you can check their website to see if they have an affiliate program. Or you can find a program through affiliate networks like CommissionJunction.com or Clickbank.com.

Set Up a Website

Your next step is to set up a website centered around the product you are promoting. The idea is to create a site that is filled with helpful content and articles. For example, if you decide to promote the Weight Watchers affiliate program, you can start a site centered around diet and exercise.

The good thing is that you don't have to pay for your own website right away. You can set up a free blog on a site like wordpress.com or blogger.com. If the site seems to be doing well and you're making money from the affiliate program or your product, you can then set up your own site.

Once your site is set up, you may want to promote more than one product. to go back to the diet blog or website example, you can promote books and DVD's about diet and exercising as well as programs such as Weight Watchers or eDiets.com.

Promote the Site

After the site is set up, you'll need to promote it. The idea is to get as many people to visit your site as possible. You can comment on other people's blogs, visit forums, start a squidoo lens and give the link to your site in the lens, promote it on sites like twitter.com, etc. There are a ton of different ways you can promote your site. You can use as many of them as you feel comfortable with.

Get People to Click on the Links

And that's the basic formula. There are other things that come into play such as keyword optimization, but that is a little more advanced. This is internet marketing at its simplest. The idea is that you'll include (tasteful) links to the affiliate programs in your blog. When people click on them and make a purchase, you'll get either a cut of the profit if it's an affiliate program or the whole amount if it's your own product.
