Barbecue Recipes that are Great for Kids

When I was a kid, all I ever really ate at barbecues were hot dogs. I would take my paper plate loaded with a hot dog, some beans,  a good amount of potato chips, and maybe a carrot over to my special little picnic table and chow down. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the food... but looking back on it I was quite picky and I wish I had more variety.

Thus, this lens. I thought I'd offer some suggestions - these are things I wish I tried back then - things that seem like they'd be delightful at a barbecue!

Try Grilled Chicken Instead of Hot Dogs...

Seriously, I didn't even know I liked grilled chicken until I was ten hears old! Why? I thought that the way my parents cooked it tasted plain! What do I think I would have liked...

  • Barbecue chicken wings.
  • Chicken brushed with barbecue or some other sauce.
  • Little chicken "nuggets" (unbreaded of course) doused with some sort of sauce.

Grilled Pizza is Delicious!

Why not grill a pizza?

I am having a made up memory flash back. I am sitting at that cute little table happily eating a homemade, healthy, grilled pizza. That I made. Oh my gosh, how fun. Maybe I'll fire up a grill sometime this week and make a pizza.

All you need to do is get some pizza dough, roll it out, and put it on the grill. Make it small and kid sized. Precook the dough on the grill just for a few minutes (brush the tops and bottoms with olive oil) and then have your child place the toppings on it. Grill it again away from direct heat until the cheese melts.
