Vintage Printed Pants Trend

Have you noticed that vintage printed pants are IN particularly jeans? Most of the patterns I've seen are super cute. However, I have learned the hard way that there is a trick to wearing these so that we can look our best.

Buy the Best For You

The wrong pattern on the wrong size can look completely unflattering. Not only that, but it is a fashion disaster if you pair these pants with the wrong style shirt or the wrong colors. I thought I'd offer some tips you could avoid these potential fashion disasters.

The funny thing about patterns is that it is completely a matter of preference. I tend to like jewel toned colors and patterns with large flowers. I am a particular fan of patterns that involve black and white because I feel that they are the most elegant, look the best on me, and fit in with my wardrobe best.

Before Making Purchase Decisions...

Before making any purchase decisions, I would take a look around so you could see what is available. Stick to something that is completely you and don't buy a pair of these pants just because they are in. Make sure you like them first! Trust me, it is easy to get caught up in them because they are really cute.

How to Wear Patterned Pants

Wearing patterned pants can be tricky. To give you further insight, I have shared a video at the end of this page. Remember that at the end of the day, you should completely love the pants. Otherwise, it isn't worth having them in your wardrobe.

Flattering Style

The very first thing to do is make sure that the pants are cut in a style that is flattering to your figure. For example, I have larger hips so I should avoid pants that have pockets on the hip. Otherwise the pockets bulge out and add even more bulk to an area that is already bulky enough!

Take the time to find a style that is flattering on your figure. It's well worth the effort. Ask for second and third opinions if you have to. Patterns accentuate your features. It can be in a positive way if the pants are cut in a way that highlights the good parts of your figure.

Avoid Matched Sets

Shirt and pants sets that match perfectly look ridiculous. Honestly, I haven't seen these in the context of the vintage printed pants trend that is out now. However, I am sure that they exist somewhere.

If you see them feel free to buy the set. But please, please avoid wearing the shirt and the pants at the same time. It looks silly!

This is my personal opinion of course and you can do whatever you want. But before you wear them together, separate the pieces out and experiment by wearing something different with it. Look in the mirror and be honest. Which looks better?

Solid Colors

To me, the only thing that really goes with these printed pants is a solid color shirt that picks up on the colors that are in the pattern. The solid color doesn't have to be specifically in the pattern. It just has to look nice with it.

How can you tell? Scour your closet or the store you are in and hold them up to the pants to see what goes. Chances are, if you are in a store, they have outfits already laid out. Ask the clerk which colors you should wear with the pants and see if they have anything for you to try before you buy them.
